Clarence Sims, zoals Slim werkelijk heet, was in de jaren zestig en zeventig ook pooier in San Francisco. Fillmore Slim stond in die tijd bekend als de ‘West Coast Godfather of the Game’ en de ‘Pope of Pimping’. De zanger treedt nog steeds op. De inmiddels 77-jarige is momenteel op tournee.
“De film beslaat enkele decennia, van Slims doorbraak als muzikant en zijn kennismaking met de onderwereld en het snelle leven tot zijn gevangenisstraf en vrijlating”, zegt coproducent en -scenarist Alan Ames.
